Gear Checklist PDF Print E-mail
The following information will help you prepare for your upcoming trip to the USNWC.                                                   

Please arrive at the check-in area 30 minutes before your trip.


Paddlesports: Rafting and Hard Boating:


Rafting Gear (Provided by USNWC):
  • Personal Flotation Device
  • Helmet
  • Paddle
  • Wetsuits, booties & splash jackets are available for an additional fee
Whitewater Hard Boating (whitewater specific kayaks & canoes): No inflatables.
  • Hardboaters are to provide all of their own gear for paddling! FLOTATION IS REQUIRED.
  • Those participating in whitewater instruction programs will be provided with all necessary gear
Flatwater Hard Boating (kayaks and canoes):
  • Boats, PFD's, paddles and helmets are provided for the 2 hour and 4 hour guided trips. 
What to wear:

For warm weather: bathing suit/shorts/t-shirt (rash guards or quick drying clothing is ideal.)

For cooler weather: bathing suit, rain jacket and/or pants, long underwear, wool shirts/sweaters and warm socks. Cotton and jeans are not recommended as they will only make you colder!

Secure footwear with a heel strap (old sneakers, water shoes or sandals with a rubber sole are suggested.)

Eyeglass strap

Sunscreen

What to bring:

Towel

A change of clothes and shoes


Land Activities: Challenge Course

Gear: USNWC provides all technical equipment.

What to wear:

Comfortable, light, loose-fitting clothing. Wear layers for adaptation to changes in weather and activity levels.

Pants provide protection against abrasions. Shorts, while cooler, will not provide as much protection. Choose at your discretion.

Soft soled tennis shoes or light weight boot (no open-toe shoes)

Sunscreen

Remove non-prescription sunglasses

Remove all jewelry (it can break or cause you harm)

Tie back long hair

What to bring:

Water bottle


Land Activities: Climbing

Gear:
  • Climbing shoes and harnesses are available for rent at the climbing center.
  • Climbers may utilize personal gear at staff discretion.
  • Those participating in instruction programs will be provided with the necessary gear.
What to wear:

Comfortable, light, loose-fitting clothing.

Wear layers for adaptation to changes in weather and activity levels

Pants provide protection against abrasions.

Shorts, while cooler, will not provide as much protection. Choose at your discretion

Non-marking tennis shoes or climbing shoes (no boots or barefeet allowed)

Socks must be worn with rental climbing shoes

What to bring:

Water bottle


Land Activities: Mountain Biking

Gear:
The trails at the USNWC are technically very difficult and are not for beginners. Helmets and mountain bikes designed for steep single track riding are required. Bike and helmet rentals will be available spring 2007

What to wear:

Wicking shirts and padded shorts are recommended

Sandals not recommended

Sunscreen

Helmets are required!

What to bring:

Water bottle

Basic repair kit, extra tube and pump or CO

Eye protection
